PEDMEDE talks about the importance of green roofs and NaturBuild in Athens
The Panhellenic Association of Engineers Contractors of Public Works (PEDMEDE) organised an event on 25 April in Athens to submit the NaturBuild project (co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme). In this event, the importance of green roofs for urban and building sustainability was highlighted. PEDMEDE also discussed the key aspects of the NaturBuild project with the attendees.
The welcome was given by the vice-president of the organisation, Konstantinos Gkoliopoulos, who highlighted the importance of installing green roofs to contribute to making buildings more sustainable. He spoke about the innovative approaches developed through NaturBuild, its aims to achieve urban and building sustainability, and about the results of the project itself. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the platform that has been developed for the ongoing green roof training.
Secondly, Antonis Panas, highlighted the benefits of green roofs, in particular their role in reducing CO2 emissions and mitigating the urban heat island effect. He also emphasised the importance of developing green roofs in urban landscapes, especially in Athens, and encouraged participants to carry out projects that incorporate this sustainable building practice.
