Necessary skills in green roof construction
On 14th and 15th December, the partners of the ‘NaturBuild’ project organised the second partners’ meeting in Lisbon (Portugal). The meeting took place at the facilities of the National Energy and Geology Laboratory (LNEG), the state energy entity of the Portuguese Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, which provides R&D oriented to the needs of society and business.
During the meeting, the partners presented a report in which they shared relevant information on the current situation of green roofs in their countries. In this way, they have collected the national regulations affecting the existence of green roofs, the associations and institutions dedicated to their promotion and examples of existing installations.
They have also compiled the benefits of green roofs in the development of cities and identified the occupations involved in the installation, maintenance and deconstruction phases of green roofs.
Interactive map on Nature-based solutions
The ‘NaturBuild’ partners have agreed to design an interactive map showing examples of green roofs installed in Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal, with the aim of making real cases visible and disseminating this type of system, which is beneficial for the environment, the building and its users.
The map will offer users the possibility to identify green roofs by country, climate zone, type of roof where it is installed or by type of benefit provided (biosolar, water management, biodiversity…), among other information. In addition, more examples can be registered through a form available on the website.
Sector experts give their opinion
During the meeting, the survey sent to around twenty experts in green roofs was discussed, who assessed the skills required to carry out the work involved in the installation, maintenance and deconstruction phases of this type of roof.
According to the answers obtained from the professionals of the sector, the partners have come to the conclusion that there is no occupational profile to carry out the tasks of these three phases, which underlines the usefulness of the training action to be designed in the project.
