Ente Scuola Edile Piacenza presents ‘NaturBuild’ at its seminar ‘ Nature-Based Solutions: Green Roofs’

Ente Scuola Edile Piacenza presented ‘NaturBuild‘ at its seminar ‘Nature Based Solutions: Green Roofs’ on 6 June. The event took place in the province of Piacenza, Italy.

The event ‘Nature-based solutions: Green roofs’ attracted a large and participative audience, mainly made up of construction technicians and contractors. The event was moderated by architect Cristina Bianchi. The event also featured several speakers who addressed various topics related to sustainability and bio-ecological architecture.

 

Opportunities to renew the construction sector

After the welcoming speech by the President of the School, Matteo Raffi, who underlined the importance of promoting opportunities to renew the building sector by facing the challenges of the evolution of sustainable construction, the event was opened by the Councillor for Sustainable Urban Development Planning of the Municipality of Piacenza, architect Adriana Fantini. In addition, architect Francesca Milani presented the advantages of nature-based solutions.

Professor Matteo Fiori, engineer at the Polytechnic University of Milan, coordinator of the working group that developed the UNI 11235 standard ‘Instructions for the design and implementation of green roofs’, presented the technological system from the perspective of design, performance and benefits on the microclimate and the external environment. Fabrizio Ramacci also spoke about the role of urban gardens in social cohesion.

The European project ‘NaturBuild’ and its training on green roofs

Sara Motta and Paola Grilli presented Naturbuild, which involves the Ente Scuola Edile Piacenza in collaboration with other organisations and research institutes from Mediterranean countries: Fundación Laboral de la Construcción (FLC); the Instituto de Robótica y Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (IRTIC), attached to the University of Valencia; Pedmede Somateioe, and the Laboratorio Nacional de Energía y Geología (LNEG).

The project, which aims to disseminate nature-based solutions through research and development training on green roofs, has produced a free online training course. The course will soon be available in the languages of the partner countries. It consists of 4 modules that can also be taken separately.

During the seminar, some progress of the online course was shown, which is currently in the testing phase. All information on its training is available here.
